Safety Tips for High Voltage Indicators

When inspecting, maintaining or working with High voltage electrical distribution systems you always require knowledge of the current status and history of the High or Medium Voltage Systems.

When approaching an electrical installation either in an open area with indoor protection or with Indoor/ Outdoor Switchgear Equipment, the most visible, reliable and cost effective method is to permanently install a single pole High Voltage YZ-Type indicator to the electrical installation to visually see that the System has Live Power.

This will provide the maintenance worker or inspector an instant status indication of the electrical system. Indicators can be viewed at a distance when installed as part of the Switchgear assembly or through viewing windows in High voltage panels.

PLEASE NOTE: Sufficient electrical clearances must be considered in accordance with applicable Electrical Safety Codes when determining the exact location for each indicator's permanent mounting position.

The YZ-2 type indicator should not be used for the primary or only method to determine the exact high voltage present.
